Sermon,This Sunday, June 7th, Communion
Pastor Matt's sermon "A New Beginning" is based on Matthew 28:16-20 with an addtional reading from Genesis 1:1--2:4a. The Creation story and the Great Commission form the framework of our Trinity Sunday service. The passages speak of new beginnings--the Creation of the world we know and a special relationship between us and our Creator God, and of a new and critical role for Jesus' disciples to carry on his ministry of reconciliation in the world. With our world upside down because of the coronavirus, what new beginnings can we see? Where is God in the midst of these times and how is God calling still calling us to serve? Let us celebrate our God of new beginnings and listen for God's empowering word.
Celebration of our High School Seniors
It sure has not been the graduation season they anticipated, so let’s make sure Emma Weller and Arie Paul feel the love of their church family. Arie is going to Whitworth and Emma is going to Harvard.
We are planning a drive-by on June 14 (caravan meeting at 2 pm at our church parking lot) with two unusual Grad cakes and gifts at Arie Paul's house. Travel time is about 15 minutes, so we will arrive at about 2:30 pm to acknowledge and celebrate Emma and Arie.
We'd also like to flood them with cards and well wishes. If you can participate, their addresses are: Arie Paul @ 1815 E. 5th St 98362 and Emma Weller @ 382 Yellow Rock Ln 98362.
Port Angeles Food Bank Food Drive Update
Prior to the covid-19 restrictions, FPCPA donated 252 pounds of food to our local food bank.
If restrictions interrupted your efforts to support the March food drive, know that your contribution is needed now more than ever. However, the food bank currently is unable to take in food donations. Additionally, food donations from our local stores are much lower than usual. This means that the food bank must purchase much of the food it provides to clients. Therefore, by donating cash, you can still participate in the church’s food drive. The following link will direct you to the food bank’s secure cash donation page. In addition to your individual support, the Missions Committee during the April meeting voted to send the PA Food Bank $750.
All Church Retreat Cancelled
Unfortunately, the all church retreat to Camp David Jr. that was scheduled May 15-17 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Clallam County Parks department has closed the camp through the end of May. Do not lose hope! 1st Presbyterian has already reserved a slot for next year, May 14-16, 2021.
Seven Marks of Vital Congregations Bible Study Wednesdays, 7 - 8:30 pm on Zoom
The staff is working on ways to give you online worship experiences created by Pastor Matt and others on the worship team. Following “social distancing” protocols still allows people to work together to create music, write prayers, and create inspiring sermons. A new web page on our site is called “E-Worship” located at fpcpa.org/eworship. Please continue to check the page for new ways to be the Church during this outbreak.
Church committees, Bible studies, and others can meet using the Zoom platform to do virtual meetings using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. We are happy to help you set up one of these meetings. Just let us know.
Directories and Hymnals
The office is also continuing to work on the draft directories. Several people have noted omissions and errors, which we are correcting. We will call or email you if we are uncertain about whether your information is up to date. Of course, you can contact us anytime to let us know if you have seen an error.
In addition, bookplates are being created for the new hymnals, Lift Up Your Hearts, which look great and have even been embossed with the church name. Once the bookplates have been printed, we will need a couple of volunteers to place them in the hymnals. After that, the hymnals will be placed in the pews and ready to use.
Blessings, Lauren Corder, Office Mgr.
