Missions & Outreach

Our primary focus continues to be in two areas:
First is providing twice monthly baked cookies to the staffs at Hamilton, Jefferson and Roosevelt.  Marilyn Mattie continues to do a great job of coordinating this much appreciated gift.  Cynthia Isenberger also makes cookies available to Lincoln School.  This is a consistent reminder to the staffs of how much we appreciate their hard work.
Our second area is providing tutoring and support in the classrooms.  Our classroom volunteers do a variety of  jobs.  The main focus is one-on-one tutoring with children as directed by the teacher.  The basic needs are tutoring in reading, in math, and/or sharing a tutoring opportunity.  Some volunteers are an extra pair of hands to help with activities.  Other volunteers support the teachers by filing, copying or any paperwork needs they have.
Even though we lost a few volunteers, we welcomed in 8 new tutors last year.  How exciting is that!  We had 36 working in the schools and would like to have even more participation.  We also have four volunteers who can’t be in the classroom weekly, but help when needs arise for special classroom projects.  Last spring they assisted Dan Cobb with a kindergarten music performance and with a Japanese Enrichment program for 1st-3rd grade at Jefferson.
